It's bad enough when there's awkward silence for a few minutes, even seconds, but to sit in silence with someone you don't know for hours I find a little awkward. If you have a dog I would be fine with going to a dog park. Truthfully, first dates are nerve racking to me so as long as we both feel comfortable and can hold a conversation I'm good.
