("Sequoia Network," "we," "us," or "our"), operating the Meetville platform at meetville.com, uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on the Meetville online dating and social discovery platform accessible at meetville.com and through our mobile and web applications (the "Platform" or "Services").

This Policy applies to all users of the Platform worldwide, including visitors to our website who have not registered an account and registered members. This Policy should be read in conjunction with our Privacy Policy, which provides comprehensive information about how we collect, use, and protect your personal data.

Note: This Cookie Policy does not address how we process your personal information outside of our use of cookies. To learn more about our general data practices, please read our Privacy Policy.

  • YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MANAGING YOUR OWN COOKIE PREFERENCES AND DEVICE SETTINGS.
  • SEQUOIA NETWORK, INC. AND MEETVILLE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO COOKIES, TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES, OR DATA COLLECTED THROUGH SUCH TECHNOLOGIES, EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT SUCH LIABILITY CANNOT BE EXCLUDED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW.
  • THIRD-PARTY PROVIDERS THAT SET COOKIES THROUGH THE PLATFORM ACT AS INDEPENDENT CONTROLLERS FOR THE DATA THEY COLLECT, AND WE DO NOT CONTROL THEIR PRIVACY PRACTICES.
  • COOKIES USED FOR PERSONALIZATION AND MATCH RECOMMENDATION DO NOT GUARANTEE ANY PARTICULAR OUTCOME, MATCH QUALITY, OR EXPERIENCE ON THE PLATFORM.

2. WHAT ARE COOKIES

2.1 Definition of Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are sent to or accessed from your web browser or your device's memory when you visit a website or use an application. A cookie typically contains the name of the domain (internet location) from which the cookie originated, the "lifetime" of the cookie (that is, when it expires), and a randomly generated unique number or similar identifier. A cookie may also contain information about your device, such as user settings, browsing history, and activities conducted while using our Services.

2.2 Types of Tracking Technologies

In addition to cookies, we use similar tracking technologies, including:

  • Pixels (Web Beacons, Tags, Clear GIFs): Tiny graphic image files embedded in web pages or emails that contain a unique identifier, enabling us to recognize when someone has visited our Services or opened an email we have sent them.
  • Tracking URLs: Custom-generated links that help us understand where the traffic to our web pages comes from.
  • Software Development Kits (SDKs): Small pieces of code included in our mobile applications which function like cookies and web beacons, enabling analytics, attribution, crash reporting, and advertising measurement within the app environment.
  • Local Storage: Technology that allows websites and applications to store data locally on your browser or device with no expiration date unless manually deleted.
  • Session Storage: Similar to local storage, but data is cleared when the browser session ends.
  • JavaScript Tags: Code executed in your browser to collect information about your interactions with the Platform.
  • Device and Advertising Identifiers: Resettable identifiers provided by mobile operating systems, including Google Advertising ID (AAID) and Apple Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA).
  • Device Fingerprinting: Techniques that collect device configuration data to recognize returning visitors, used primarily for fraud prevention, bot detection, and account security.

For simplicity, this Policy uses the term "cookies" to refer to all these technologies unless specifically stated otherwise.

2.3 Cookie Duration

  • Session Cookies: Temporary cookies that expire when you close your browser. These are used primarily for session management and security, and last for the duration of a single browsing session.
  • Persistent Cookies: Cookies that remain on your device for a specified period or until manually deleted. These are used to remember your preferences, keep you signed in, and recognize you on return visits. Persistent cookies may remain active for periods ranging from hours to years, depending on their purpose.

2.4 Cookie Origin

  • First-Party Cookies: Set directly by Meetville (meetville.com domain) and used exclusively by the Platform. For example, we use first-party cookies to adapt the Platform to your browser's language preferences, keep you signed in, and better understand your use of our Services.
  • Third-Party Cookies: Set by external service providers (for example, analytics, attribution, advertising, or social platform partners) operating under their own domains. These cookies may track your activity across multiple websites and applications.

3. COOKIES WE USE

We categorize cookies based on their purpose and the legal basis for their use.

Critical: Where consent is required under applicable law, we do not install non-essential cookies until you provide your explicit consent through our cookie banner or in-app privacy settings.

Note on linking cookie data with other information: To accomplish the purposes described below, we may link information collected through cookies with other personal information we hold about you, including your account, profile, and usage data. Where we do so, that combined information is treated as personal data under our Privacy Policy.

3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the operation of the Platform and cannot be disabled without preventing you from using our Services.

Purpose:

  • Authentication: Verify your identity, maintain your logged-in session across the Platform, and support "remember me" functionality where you have requested it.
  • Security and Account Protection: Protect against cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks, unauthorized login attempts, credential stuffing, account takeover, and access to compromised accounts.
  • Fraud, Spam, and Bot Prevention: Detect automated accounts, scripted behavior, romance-fraud patterns, and coordinated abuse. Certain persistent cookies help us confirm that the same device is signing into the correct account and support our anti-spam and anti-phishing measures.
  • Payment Security: Protect transactions when you purchase subscriptions or other paid features, and support fraud screening by our payment processors.
  • Session Management: Track your session state and ensure continuity as you navigate between pages, complete registration, upload photographs, or exchange messages.
  • Localization: Deliver the Platform in the language and regional format you have requested.
  • Load Balancing: Distribute traffic across servers to maintain performance and availability.

Third-Party Strictly Necessary Cookies: Some strictly necessary cookies are set by third parties, because certain social platforms can be used as an entry point to register for and sign into our Services. Where you choose to register or sign in through such a platform, cookies set by that platform are necessary to complete authentication.

Legal Basis:

  • GDPR/ePrivacy (EU/EEA/UK/Switzerland): Contractual necessity. These cookies are required to deliver the Services you have requested and to fulfill our obligations under the Terms of Use. GDPR Article 6(1)(b) and the ePrivacy Directive Article 5(3) exemption for cookies strictly necessary for the provision of a service explicitly requested by the user. Security and fraud-prevention cookies additionally rest on our legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) and, where applicable, on our legal obligations under Article 6(1)(c).
  • CCPA/CPRA and other US state laws: No consent required. These cookies are necessary to provide the service you requested.
  • Other Jurisdictions: Operational necessity for service delivery.

No Consent Required: These cookies are automatically enabled and cannot be disabled through cookie preferences. You may block them through browser settings, but the Platform will not function.

3.2 Functional Cookies

These cookies enhance your experience by remembering your preferences and settings. While not strictly necessary, they improve Platform usability.

Purpose:

  • User Preferences: Store your display settings, search and discovery filters, notification preferences, and interface configurations.
  • Language and Region Selection: Remember your chosen language and regional settings across sessions.
  • Discovery Settings: Retain preferences such as distance range, age range, and profile visibility options you have configured.
  • Customization: Retain personalized configurations you have applied to your account.

Legal Basis:

  • GDPR/ePrivacy (EU/EEA/UK/Switzerland): Consent required. GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and ePrivacy Directive Article 5(3).
  • CCPA/CPRA and other US state laws: No consent required for functional purposes, but opt-out available.
  • Other Jurisdictions: Consent or legitimate interest, depending on local requirements.

User Control: You may disable functional cookies through cookie preferences. Disabling these cookies may result in reduced functionality and require you to reconfigure preferences on each visit.

3.3 Analytics and Performance Cookies

These cookies collect information about how users interact with the Platform, helping us improve functionality, match relevance, user experience, and service performance.

Purpose:

  • Usage Statistics: Measure page and screen views, session duration, registration funnel completion, navigation patterns, and feature engagement.
  • Feature Adoption: Track which features are most frequently used and identify areas for improvement.
  • Error and Crash Tracking: Detect and diagnose technical issues, application errors, crashes, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Performance Monitoring: Assess loading times, Platform responsiveness, and infrastructure performance.
  • Experimentation: Support A/B testing, staged feature rollouts, and evaluation of interface and recommendation changes.

Cookies in this category collect information in aggregated or pseudonymous form, including the number of visitors, the sources from which visitors arrive, and the pages and screens they view.

Legal Basis:

  • GDPR/ePrivacy (EU/EEA/UK/Switzerland): Consent required. GDPR Article 6(1)(a). Analytics cookies are non-essential and require prior consent.
  • CCPA/CPRA and other US state laws: Opt-out required where data is shared with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising. Notice at collection provided.
  • Other Jurisdictions: Consent required in most privacy-protective jurisdictions.

User Control: You may opt out of analytics cookies without affecting core Platform functionality. Consent can be withdrawn at any time through cookie preferences.

Data Processing: Analytics data is processed primarily in the United States and, for certain providers, the European Union. International transfers are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) as described in Section 11.

3.4 Advertising and Marketing Cookies

These cookies are used to deliver advertising relevant to your interests, measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, and support attribution and retargeting.

Purpose:

  • Conversion Tracking and Attribution: Measure whether marketing campaigns lead to registrations, subscriptions, or purchases, and determine which channels drive engagement.
  • App Install Attribution: Determine which campaign led to a mobile application installation or first session.
  • Retargeting: Display relevant advertisements to users who have previously visited the Platform, on external websites and applications.
  • Frequency Capping: Prevent the same advertisement from repeatedly reappearing.
  • Audience Construction: Build similar-audience and exclusion audiences using hashed, non-human-readable identifiers.
  • Ad Personalization on the Platform: Where we display third-party advertising within the Services, select advertisements likely to be relevant to you and measure their performance.

Legal Basis:

  • GDPR/ePrivacy (EU/EEA/UK/Switzerland): Consent required. GDPR Article 6(1)(a). Advertising cookies require prior explicit consent.
  • CCPA/CPRA and other US state laws: Opt-out required. Advertising cookies may constitute "selling" or "sharing" personal information under CCPA/CPRA and analogous state laws. A "Your Privacy Choices" opt-out mechanism is provided.
  • Other Jurisdictions: Consent required in most privacy-protective jurisdictions.

Sensitive Data Safeguard: We do not use profile attributes that may be considered sensitive personal data or special category data under applicable law — including sexual orientation, sexual life, religious or philosophical beliefs, political opinions, racial or ethnic origin, or health information — to target advertising to you, and we do not disclose such attributes to advertising partners for targeting purposes.

User Control: You may opt out of advertising cookies at any time without impacting your access to the Platform. Opting out does not prevent all advertising; it limits advertising personalized to your behavior.

3.5 Social Networking Cookies

These cookies enable social features and integrations.

Purpose:

  • Allowing you to register for and sign into the Platform using a third-party social account.
  • Enabling you to share pages, profiles, or content between the Platform and third-party social networking services, where such functionality is offered.
  • Supporting social plugins embedded in the Platform.

Important: Where a social feature you use allows a third party to place cookies on your device, that third party's own cookie and privacy policies govern its processing. These cookies may also be used by the third party for advertising purposes.

Legal Basis:

  • GDPR/ePrivacy (EU/EEA/UK/Switzerland): Consent required, except where a social login cookie is strictly necessary to complete an authentication you have expressly initiated.
  • CCPA/CPRA and other US state laws: Opt-out available.

4. DETAILED COOKIE TABLE

Placeholders: Entries shown in square brackets denote first-party cookies whose names are specific to our current Platform build. The definitive, current inventory — including any cookies not listed above — is available in the Cookie Preference Center described in Section 6.2, which is generated from a live scan of the Platform and takes precedence over this table where the two differ.

Mobile Applications: Our mobile applications do not use browser cookies. Equivalent functions are performed by SDKs, local storage, and device or advertising identifiers, as described in Section 2.2. Controls for these technologies are described in Section 6.4.

Additional Cookies: Additional cookies may be set by third-party services integrated into the Platform. Cookie names beginning with prefixes may include multiple variations. We update this table periodically to reflect current practices.

Cookie Retention: Persistent cookies are retained for the duration specified in the table. We review cookie durations at least annually to ensure they do not exceed what is necessary for their intended purpose.

5. THIRD-PARTY COOKIES

We engage third-party service providers to support Platform functionality, analyze usage, prevent fraud, and deliver marketing. These providers may set cookies on your device when you use the Platform.

5.1 Categories of Third-Party Providers

  • Processing Location: Primarily the United States.
  • Note: Disabling error tracking may impair our ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues affecting your account.

Advertising, Attribution, and Marketing Providers

  • Purpose: Search, social, display, and in-app advertising; conversion tracking; mobile install attribution; custom and similar audiences; retargeting; campaign measurement.
  • Data Collected: Click and impression data, conversion events, device information, IP address, advertising identifiers, hashed contact identifiers, browsing and app usage behavior.
  • Processing Location: Primarily the United States and global data centers operated by the respective providers.

Fraud Prevention and Anti-Abuse Providers

  • Purpose: Bot detection, device fingerprinting for abuse prevention, detection of ban evasion, protection against scripted registration and messaging.
  • Data Collected: Device configuration signals, IP address, behavioral signals, session characteristics.
  • Processing Location: Primarily the United States.

Social Platform Providers

  • Purpose: Social authentication, social plugins, content sharing.
  • Data Collected: Authentication tokens, profile attributes you authorize, interaction and sharing events, and, where you are signed into the platform, identifiers associated with your account on that platform.
  • Processing Location: Determined by the respective provider.

5.2 Google Services

Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics, a Google service that uses cookies and other data collection technologies to collect information about your use of the Platform in order to report usage trends. Information is collected in aggregated form, including visitor counts, traffic sources, and pages viewed.

  • Information on how Google collects and processes data: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
  • Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
  • Google ad personalization settings: https://adssettings.google.com

Google Maps API Cookies. Certain location-dependent features of the Platform may rely on Google Maps API cookies, which are stored on your device. Google manages the information and your choices pertaining to Google Maps API cookies through an interface separate from the one supplied by your browser. For more information, see https://policies.google.com/technologies/cookies

5.3 Current Provider Inventory

The specific third-party providers active on the Platform at any given time, together with links to their privacy policies and opt-out mechanisms, are listed in the Cookie Preference Center described in Section 6.2. That inventory is maintained as providers are added or removed, and is the authoritative source. A copy of the current inventory is also available on request to [email protected].

5.4 Third-Party Responsibility

Third-party providers are independent data controllers for the data they collect through their own cookies and technologies. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PRIVACY PRACTICES, DATA HANDLING, SECURITY MEASURES, OR COMPLIANCE WITH APPLICABLE LAWS. We recommend reviewing their privacy policies before consenting to their cookies. Where required by applicable law, we enter into joint controller or processor arrangements with such providers and make the essential terms available on request.

5.5 Data Transfer Mechanisms

Third-party providers are primarily located in the United States. Data transfers to these providers from the EEA, UK, and Switzerland are governed by:

  • Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs): Approved by the European Commission under Article 46(2)(c) GDPR.
  • UK Addendum / IDTA: For UK data transfers, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU SCCs.
  • Swiss Provisions: For Swiss transfers, the European Commission SCCs as modified and approved by the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.
  • Supplementary Measures: Encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, data minimization, and contractual obligations.

Users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland retain all rights under GDPR regarding data processed by third parties, including the rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, object, and data portability.

6. MANAGING COOKIES

You have multiple options for controlling and managing cookies. Please note that changes you make to your cookie preferences may make using our Services a less satisfying experience, as they may be less personalized to you.

6.1 Consent Mechanism and Prior Consent

Initial Interaction: When you first visit the Platform from a jurisdiction where consent is required, you will see a cookie banner explaining our use of cookies and requesting your consent for non-essential cookies.

Prior Consent: Non-essential cookies (functional, analytics, advertising, social) are not placed on your device until you provide explicit consent. This implements the "prior consent" requirement of the ePrivacy Directive and GDPR.

Consent Options:

  • Accept All: Consent to all cookie categories.
  • Reject All: Decline all non-essential cookies. Only strictly necessary cookies will be used. You retain full access to Platform functionality.
  • Customize (Granular Consent): Select specific cookie categories you wish to allow or block, in any combination.

Consent Withdrawal: You may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal is as easy as providing consent — one action through the cookie preferences interface. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before withdrawal.

Consent Records: We maintain records of your consent choices, including date, time, consent scope (categories accepted and rejected), and consent method. These records are retained for compliance and audit purposes as described in our Privacy Policy.

No Cookie Walls: We do not restrict access to the Platform if you reject non-essential cookies. You may use all features and functionality with only strictly necessary cookies enabled.

6.2 Platform Controls

Cookie Preference Center. A dedicated Cookie Preference Center is accessible from the Platform footer and from the cookie banner. The Preference Center allows you to:

  • Review all cookie categories and their purposes
  • View the current inventory of active cookies and third-party providers
  • Grant or withdraw consent for specific categories
  • Access opt-out links for third-party services
  • Review your current consent record

Account Settings. Signed-in members can manage cookie and privacy preferences from account settings. Preferences are applied immediately upon saving.

"Your Privacy Choices." Where applicable United States state law grants a right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information or of targeted advertising, an opt-out control is provided through the "Your Privacy Choices" link in the website footer and in application settings.

Industry-Wide Opt-Outs:

  • Digital Advertising Alliance (US): https://optout.aboutads.info/
  • Your Online Choices (EU): https://youronlinechoices.eu/
  • Network Advertising Initiative: https://thenai.org/how-to-opt-out/
  • AppChoices (mobile apps): available through the Digital Advertising Alliance

Opting out through these programs does not mean you will stop seeing advertising. It means you will not see personalized advertising from the companies participating in those programs. If you delete cookies on your device after opting out, you will need to opt out again.

6.3 Browser Controls

All major web browsers allow you to manage cookies through browser settings. Each browser handles cookies slightly differently; the specific steps are available in your browser's help or support menu.

Google Chrome: Menu (⋮) → Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies. To view or delete existing cookies: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies → See all site data and permissions. To clear all cookies: Settings → Privacy and security → Clear browsing data → Cookies and other site data.

Mozilla Firefox: Menu (☰) → Settings → Privacy & Security. Under Cookies and Site Data, choose Standard, Strict, or Custom protection. To manage cookies: Manage Data. To clear cookies: Cookies and Site Data → Clear Data.

Apple Safari (macOS): Safari → Settings (or Preferences) → Privacy. Select Prevent cross-site tracking to block third-party cookies. To manage cookies: Manage Website Data. To block all cookies: enable Block all cookies (may affect functionality).

Apple Safari (iOS): Settings → Safari → enable Prevent Cross-Site Tracking. To block all cookies: enable Block All Cookies.

Microsoft Edge: Menu (⋯) → Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data. To clear cookies: Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Clear browsing data → Cookies and other site data.

Blocking Third-Party Cookies: Most browsers allow you to block third-party cookies while permitting first-party cookies. Third-party cookie blocking is enabled by default in Safari and Firefox; Chrome and Edge require manual configuration.

Private/Incognito Mode: Browsing in private or incognito mode prevents persistent cookies from being stored after the session ends.

Browser Limitations: Browser-based controls apply only to cookies. Other tracking technologies (local storage, session storage, pixels, SDKs) may not be affected by browser cookie settings. For comprehensive control, use the Platform Cookie Preference Center in addition to browser controls.

6.4 Mobile Device and Application Controls

Our mobile applications do not use browser cookies. To control tracking in the application environment:

  • In-App Privacy Settings: Adjust analytics and advertising preferences directly in the application's account settings.
  • Advertising Identifier Reset: On iOS, Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, and Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising. On Android, Settings → Privacy → Ads, where you may reset or delete your advertising ID.
  • App Tracking Transparency (iOS): On supported iOS versions, you will be asked whether to permit tracking across other companies' apps and websites. Declining this prompt prevents access to the IDFA. Because this control is operated by the device manufacturer, the availability of certain attribution and advertising features depends on your response to it, independently of your Platform cookie preferences.
  • Device Permissions: Camera, photo library, contacts, precise location, and push notification permissions are controlled through your device operating system settings and may be granted or revoked at any time. Revoking a permission may cause the corresponding feature to lose functionality.

7. DO NOT TRACK (DNT) AND GLOBAL PRIVACY CONTROL (GPC)

7.1 Do Not Track (DNT)

Do Not Track (DNT) is a browser setting that signals to websites that a user does not wish to have online activity tracked. There is currently no uniform industry or legal standard for interpreting or responding to DNT signals, and not all browsers offer the option.

Platform Response: Consistent with prevailing industry practice, the Meetville Platform does not currently respond to DNT browser signals. We do honor Global Privacy Control and other recognized opt-out preference signals as described below, and you may control tracking through the Cookie Preference Center and the browser and device controls described in Section 6.

7.2 Global Privacy Control (GPC)

Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a privacy signal that allows users to automatically exercise opt-out rights under privacy laws such as CCPA/CPRA. When enabled, GPC communicates that you do not want your personal information sold or shared.

Platform Response to GPC: When a GPC signal is detected:

  • Advertising Cookies: Automatically blocked. No advertising or retargeting cookies will be set.
  • Analytics Cookies: Automatically blocked where they involve sharing data with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • CCPA/CPRA and State Law Opt-Out: Automatically honored. GPC is treated as a valid "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" request.
  • Functional and Strictly Necessary Cookies: Remain active, as they are necessary for service delivery or do not involve selling or sharing personal information.

Enabling GPC: GPC is supported by privacy-focused browsers and browser extensions, including Brave, DuckDuckGo, and available extensions for Firefox and Safari.

Legal Recognition: GPC signals are legally recognized under CCPA/CPRA in California and under similar laws in other United States states. We honor GPC signals as legally binding opt-out requests where applicable law requires.

8. IMPACT OF DISABLING COOKIES

8.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

Impact if Disabled: The Platform will not function. You will be unable to sign in, access your account, view or edit your profile, browse or receive recommendations, or exchange messages. Payment and security protections will not operate.

Technical Reason: Strictly necessary cookies maintain your authenticated session, prevent security attacks, protect transactions, and ensure requests are routed correctly.

8.2 Functional Cookies

Impact if Disabled: The Platform will function, but your experience will be degraded. Preferences will not persist between sessions, requiring you to reconfigure language, discovery filters, notification settings, and display options on each visit.

User Action Required: Core functionality — profile management, discovery, matching, and messaging — remains fully accessible.

8.3 Analytics Cookies

Impact if Disabled: No impact on core Platform functionality. You retain full access to all features. Disabling analytics cookies only prevents us from collecting usage statistics used to improve the Platform, and may reduce our ability to diagnose technical problems affecting your account.

Benefit to User: Disabling analytics cookies enhances your privacy by preventing behavioral measurement and data sharing with third-party analytics providers.

8.4 Advertising Cookies

Impact if Disabled: No impact on Platform functionality. You will continue to receive full access to all features and services. Disabling advertising cookies prevents personalized advertising and conversion tracking.

Advertising After Opt-Out: You may still see generic, non-targeted advertisements for Meetville on external websites and applications, and generic advertising within the Services where advertising is displayed, but these will not be based on your browsing behavior or Platform usage.

8.5 Social Networking Cookies

Impact if Disabled: Social sign-in and social sharing features may become unavailable. If you registered using a social account and disable the associated cookies, you may need to sign in using an alternative method, such as email and password or a one-time code.

9. LEGAL BASES AND REGIONAL COMPLIANCE

9.1 European Union, European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland

Legal Bases:

Contractual Necessity (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR): Strictly necessary cookies are processed to fulfill our contractual obligations under the Terms of Use and to deliver the Services you have requested.

Legitimate Interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR): Security, anti-fraud, anti-spam, and abuse-prevention cookies additionally rest on our legitimate interests in protecting the Platform and the safety of our users.

Consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR): Functional, analytics, advertising, and social cookies require your explicit, informed, freely given, and specific consent, requested through our cookie banner upon your first visit. Consent is granular by category, and may be withdrawn at any time.

ePrivacy Directive Compliance: We comply with ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC (as amended) Article 5(3), which requires prior consent for storing or accessing information on a user's device, except where strictly necessary for a service explicitly requested by the user. This directive applies as lex specialis for cookies.

UK PECR Compliance: For users in the United Kingdom, we comply with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), which operate alongside UK GDPR.

Swiss FADP: For users in Switzerland, we comply with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection.

Your Rights: Withdraw consent at any time; access information about cookies and data collected; object to processing based on legitimate interests; lodge a complaint with your national Data Protection Authority, the UK Information Commissioner's Office, or the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.

9.2 California and Other United States States

Legal Framework: The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), and analogous laws in other states govern the use of cookies for residents of those states.

Opt-Out Model: These laws use an opt-out model rather than opt-in consent. We do not require prior consent for most cookies for residents of these states, but we provide opt-out mechanisms for cookies that involve "selling," "sharing," or targeted advertising.

"Selling" or "Sharing": Advertising cookies, and certain analytics cookies that share data with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising, may constitute "selling" or "sharing" personal information under these laws. An opt-out mechanism is provided through the "Your Privacy Choices" control and through recognized opt-out preference signals.

Notice at Collection: This Cookie Policy serves as our Notice at Collection for information collected through cookies. Through cookies, we collect the following categories of personal information: identifiers (cookie IDs, device and advertising identifiers, IP addresses), internet or other electronic network activity (browsing and application behavior, pages and screens viewed, interaction events), and device information (browser type, operating system, device characteristics), together with approximate location derived from IP address.

Sensitive Personal Information: We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information collected through cookies for purposes other than those permitted under CPRA Section 1798.121, and we do not use profile attributes that may constitute sensitive personal information for advertising targeting.

Your Rights: Right to opt out of sale, sharing, and targeted advertising; right to know; right to delete; right to correct; right to limit use of sensitive personal information; right to non-discrimination; and, in states providing it, the right to appeal a denied request.

9.3 Canada (PIPEDA)

Legal Framework: Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) governs the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information in the course of commercial activities.

Consent Requirement: PIPEDA requires meaningful consent. We obtain express consent for non-essential cookies through our cookie banner.

Your Rights: Withdraw consent at any time (subject to legal or contractual restrictions); access personal information collected through cookies; challenge the accuracy of personal information; file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

9.4 Australia (Privacy Act)

Legal Framework: Australia's Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) govern the handling of personal information.

Consent Requirement: We obtain consent for cookies that collect personal information, in accordance with APP 3 and APP 6.

Your Rights: Access personal information collected through cookies; request correction; make a privacy complaint to us or to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

9.5 Brazil (LGPD)

Legal Framework: Brazil's Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD) governs the processing of personal data of individuals in Brazil.

Consent Requirement: We obtain consent for non-essential cookies and rely on legitimate interests or contractual necessity for strictly necessary cookies, as permitted under LGPD Articles 7 and 10.

9.6 Other Jurisdictions

For users in jurisdictions not specifically mentioned above, we apply privacy-protective practices consistent with internationally recognized privacy principles. We obtain consent for non-essential cookies and provide opt-out mechanisms where required by local law.

10. YOUR RIGHTS

Rights regarding cookies and data collected through cookies vary by jurisdiction.

10.1 Right to Withdraw Consent

You may withdraw consent for functional, analytics, advertising, and social cookies at any time through:

  • The Cookie Preference Center (accessible from the Platform footer and cookie banner)
  • Account settings within the Platform
  • Browser and device cookie controls
  • Email request to [email protected]

Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing conducted prior to withdrawal. After withdrawal, we will stop placing non-essential cookies on your device.

10.2 Right of Access

You may request information about the cookies we use and the data collected through them. To exercise this right, contact [email protected]. We will provide: the categories of cookies active in relation to your use of the Platform; the categories of data collected; the purposes of cookie usage; and the categories of third parties receiving data from cookies.

10.3 Right to Object

You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and an unconditional right to object to processing for direct marketing purposes. Upon receiving an objection, we will cease the specified processing unless we demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, rights, and freedoms, or the processing is necessary for legal claims.

10.4 Right to Deletion

You may request deletion of data collected through cookies. Upon receiving a verified deletion request, we will delete data stored on our servers relating to cookie activity and instruct third-party providers to delete data collected through their cookies, to the extent technically feasible and within the limits of our contractual relationship with those providers.

Note: Some data may be retained for legal obligations (for example, billing records and consent records) or legitimate interests (for example, fraud prevention, ban evasion prevention, and user safety), as described in the Data Retention section of our Privacy Policy.

10.5 Right to Data Portability

You may request a copy of data collected through cookies in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format. This right applies only to data processed based on consent or contract and carried out by automated means.

10.6 Right to Opt Out of Sale, Sharing, and Targeted Advertising

Where applicable law grants this right, you may exercise it through the "Your Privacy Choices" control, the Cookie Preference Center, or a recognized opt-out preference signal such as GPC.

10.7 Right to Lodge a Complaint

If you believe your rights have been violated, you may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority:

  • EU/EEA: Your national Data Protection Authority. List: https://www.edpb.europa.eu/about-edpb/who-we-are/edpb-members_en

11. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS

11.1 Cross-Border Transfers

Many of our third-party service providers are based in the United States. When you use the Platform, cookies may transfer data to servers located outside your country of residence, including countries that may not provide the same level of data protection as your jurisdiction.

Primary Data Processing Locations: United States (analytics, error monitoring, advertising, attribution, fraud prevention, and social platform providers); European Union (certain providers offering EU data residency for EU users).

11.2 Transfer Mechanisms for EEA, UK, and Swiss Users

Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs): We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission under Article 46(2)(c) GDPR with third-party providers that process data outside the EEA.

UK International Data Transfer Agreement/Addendum: For transfers from the UK, we implement the UK IDTA or the UK Addendum to the EU SCCs.

Swiss Provisions: For transfers from Switzerland, we implement the European Commission SCCs as modified and approved by the Swiss FDPIC.

Supplementary Measures:

  • Encryption: Data transmitted to third-party servers is encrypted in transit using TLS; data at rest is encrypted using industry-standard algorithms.
  • Access Controls: Strict access controls limit who can access data transferred internationally.
  • Data Minimization: We transfer only data necessary for the specified purpose.
  • Contractual Obligations: Third-party providers are contractually obligated to implement adequate security measures and comply with data protection laws.

EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF): Some third-party providers participate in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Where applicable, we may rely on DPF as an additional transfer mechanism, but we primarily rely on SCCs to ensure compliance regardless of DPF status.

11.3 Your Rights Regarding International Transfers

Users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland retain all rights under GDPR/UK GDPR regarding data transferred internationally, including the right to be informed about the transfer, the right to access data held by international recipients, the right to request that international transfers be stopped (subject to contractual and legal limitations), and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

12. POLICY UPDATES

12.1 Review and Amendments

We review this Policy periodically to ensure it remains accurate and reflects current practices, legal requirements, and technological developments. We may update this Policy to account for new cookies or tracking technologies; changes in third-party providers; changes in applicable privacy laws; changes in our data processing practices; and user feedback and best practices.

12.2 Notification of Material Changes

Material changes to this Policy will be communicated through:

  • Email Notification: Sent to the email address associated with your account at least thirty (30) days before changes take effect, where feasible.
  • Platform Notice: A prominent notification displayed within the Platform.
  • Renewed Consent: Where a change introduces a new cookie category or purpose requiring consent, we will request fresh consent rather than relying on consent previously given.
  • Updated Date: The "Last Updated" date at the top of this Policy will be revised.

Material Changes Definition: Introduction of new cookie categories requiring consent; changes to legal bases for processing; changes to data retention periods; addition of new third-party providers with access to significant personal data; or changes that materially affect your rights.

12.3 Acceptance of Changes

Continued use of the Platform after notification of material changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy, except where applicable law requires affirmative consent. If you do not agree with the changes, you may adjust your cookie preferences to reject new cookie categories, discontinue use of the Platform, or delete your account.

12.4 Non-Material Changes

Non-material changes (typographical corrections, clarifications, updates to third-party links, or organizational restructuring without substantive change) take effect immediately upon posting and are reflected in the "Last Updated" date.

12.5 Version History

Previous versions of this Cookie Policy are available upon request. Contact [email protected] to request archived versions.

13. AGE RESTRICTION AND CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Age Restriction: The Meetville Platform is restricted to individuals who are eighteen (18) years of age or older. We do not permit individuals under 18 on the Platform and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 through cookies or any other means.

Age Verification: We collect date of birth at registration and use it to verify that you meet the minimum age requirement. We may apply additional age-assurance measures where we have reason to believe a user may be underage or where required by applicable law.

No Advertising to Minors: We do not knowingly place advertising or targeting cookies on the device of any individual we know to be under 18, and we do not sell or share the personal information of any individual we know to be under 18.

Action Upon Discovery: If we learn that we have placed non-essential cookies on the device of an individual under 18 — or, in California, on the device of a resident under 16 without opt-in consent, or under 13 without parental consent — we will delete those cookies and any data collected through them, and will take steps to terminate the associated registration in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Parental Notice: If you believe a person under 18 has provided personal information through our Platform or that we have placed cookies on their device, contact us immediately at [email protected]. We will take prompt action to delete the cookies and associated data.

COPPA: The Platform is not directed to children and is not subject to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) given its 18-and-over restriction. We nonetheless adhere to the principles of COPPA and will not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
