Meetville. Community Guidelines

Effective Date: January 11, 2010
Last Updated: September 1, 2026

Meetville is a service for single adults who want to meet each other. Some people here are looking for something serious, some for something lighter. That's fine — what matters is that everyone is honest about it and treats each other well.

We want you to have a good experience. For that to happen, we ask everyone to take responsibility for how they behave here and how they treat other people.

These Guidelines are part of our Terms of Use and work alongside our Acceptable Use Policy, which sets out the same rules in more formal language. If you break these Guidelines, we may warn you, limit your account, or remove it permanently.

THE GOLDEN RULE

If you wouldn't say it, do it, or show it to a date sitting across the table from you, don't say it, do it, or show it here.

Before you send a message, ask a question, or upload a photo, ask yourself whether you'd do the same in person. If the answer is no, it's probably not a good idea online either.

THE FOUR PILLARS

  1. Be kind
  2. Be respectful
  3. Be safe
  4. Be genuine

1. BE KIND

Treat people here the way you'd want to be treated.

Don't be rude. Don't be mean. Don't bully, intimidate, defame, harass, or stalk anyone.

If someone says they're not interested, leave them alone. If someone blocks you or unmatches you, don't try to get back in touch — not through a new account, not through a friend, not through another platform. Even if you don't think you did anything wrong, the best thing to do is move on.

Tips

  • Be careful with what you say, especially early on. Something you think is a joke may land very differently with someone who doesn't know you yet.
  • Nobody finds threats, hate speech, racism, or bigotry attractive. They're also illegal in many places, and we take reports of them seriously. Depending on severity, they lead to a warning or an immediate ban.
  • Disagreeing with someone is fine. Attacking them isn't.

Where the line is. Attacking or demeaning people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, immigration status, religion, caste, disability, medical condition, age, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation is not allowed here. Neither are threats of violence — of any kind, against anyone.

2. BE RESPECTFUL

Every good relationship starts with mutual respect. Show it from the first message.

Think of your photo and your username as your first message. Choose a name that makes a decent first impression and a photo that shows you as you actually are. If your name, photo, or messages contain hate speech, obscenity, or trolling, it won't just cost you dates — it'll cost you your account.

About sexual content. We're all adults here, and people may send flirty and even sexy messages to each other — but only when it's welcome. Don't send unsolicited sexual propositions or sexually explicit content, particularly at the start of a conversation. Consent isn't a formality; it's the whole point. If someone hasn't indicated they want that kind of conversation, don't start one.

We don't allow content depicting illegal activity, or promoting commercial sexual services, human trafficking, or non-consensual sexual acts. That results in removal, not a warning.

Tips

  • Talking about kinks or fantasies can be part of getting to know someone — but not in the first message. Let things develop.
  • Never upload nudity, sexually explicit, or pornographic content. Not to your profile, not in messages.
  • Avoid out-of-context shirtless or lingerie photos. A beach photo is a beach photo; the same shot in your bedroom reads differently.
  • No images of violence, drug use, or criminal activity.
  • Please respect children's privacy and safety. Photos where a minor is the main subject will be removed. If a child appears incidentally in a family photo, obscure their face — and never post anything sexual or suggestive involving a minor, under any circumstances.
  • Meetville isn't the place to advertise your business, your band, your artwork, or your old fridge. Spammers get banned.

3. BE SAFE

Think about your own safety first.

Keep your early conversations on Meetville. Don't share too much too soon. Never give your home address, workplace, email, or phone number to someone you don't yet trust.

Watch out for anyone who asks you for money. Scammers can be extremely convincing, and they're patient — some spend weeks building trust before the first request. If someone you've never met in person brings up money, cryptocurrency, an investment opportunity, a customs fee, a medical emergency, or a plane ticket, stop and report them. That is the single most common way people get hurt on dating services.

This is a dating service, not a marketplace. Never ask another member for passwords, identification numbers, financial information, or their home or work address. You may not use information about a member — public or private — for business, commercial, or any unlawful purpose.

We only accept adults. We remove and permanently ban any account operated by someone under 18. If you believe a member is underage, report them immediately — for their safety and yours. Do not keep talking to them.

If someone makes you uncomfortable or breaks these rules, report them. Use the report option on their profile or in the conversation. If you don't want to hear from them again, block them. You don't owe anyone an explanation for either.

Tips

  • In the early stages, keep everything on the platform. You're both safer that way.
  • Don't pressure anyone into sharing personal information. They don't know you yet. They'll share when they're ready.
  • When you do meet in person: choose a public place, tell someone you trust where you're going and who you're meeting, and arrange your own transport there and back.
  • Trust your instincts. If something feels off, it probably is. You are never obliged to continue a conversation, go on a date, or stay on one.

In an emergency, contact local emergency services first. We're not an emergency service and can't respond in real time.

4. BE GENUINE

Be yourself, and be honest about what you're looking for.

People here want different things — something serious, something casual, something they haven't figured out yet. All of that is fine. What's not fine is misleading someone about it, or about who you are.

Be honest about your age, your relationship status, and your photos. If you're married or partnered and someone has made clear that matters to them, don't pretend otherwise. Lying about being single isn't a small thing — it wastes someone's time and can genuinely hurt them.

We ban scammers, impersonators, fraudsters, and criminals, and we may report them to the police.

Don't promote external links, sites, pages, or commercial messages in your profile or messages. And don't use copyrighted images belonging to someone else without their permission — responsibility for any content you post lies with you.

Tips

  • Make sure everything on your profile is true, including your age and height. Being dishonest from the start is disrespectful, and it breaks our Terms.
  • Only use pictures of yourself, and show your face clearly. Group photos alone don't work — people can't tell which one is you.
  • Avoid memes or heavy filters that distort or hide your face. People want to know what you actually look like.
  • Recent photos beat flattering old ones. Everyone finds out eventually.

CYBERBULLYING AND PERSISTENCE

Repeatedly messaging someone who isn't responding is harassment, not persistence.

Repeated messages undermine people's sense of safety and dignity, especially when they're insulting, discriminatory, or sexual without consent.

Three simple rules:

Rule 1. Wait for the other person to reply — or to choose not to.

Rule 2. Following up once is fine. Twice is fine. Three times is too many.

Rule 3. Respect the other person: no insults, no demeaning language, no unsolicited explicit photos.

If you're receiving pushy messages that make you uncomfortable:

  • Report the profile directly from the conversation or the profile. Every report is reviewed as quickly as we can, and outcomes range from a warning to permanent removal.
  • Block the profile so that person can no longer contact you.

BEHAVIOUR OFF THE PLATFORM

We want people to meet. And we want you to stay kind, safe, respectful, and genuine through your dates and beyond.

These Guidelines don't stop at the edge of the app. If someone behaves badly toward you during or after a meeting arranged through Meetville — harassment, threats, coercion, violence, sexual misconduct, fraud, or sharing intimate images without consent — we want to hear about it, and we may act on your report even though the conduct happened offline.

Contact us at [email protected] and we'll do what we can to help. If a crime has been committed, please also contact your local law enforcement.

THINGS THAT RESULT IN IMMEDIATE REMOVAL

Most issues start with a warning. These do not:

  • Anything involving a minor — sexual content, solicitation, grooming, or an underage account;
  • Threats of violence, or violence toward another member;
  • Sexual assault or non-consensual sexual contact arising from a connection made here;
  • Sharing or threatening to share someone's intimate images without their consent;
  • Human trafficking or exploitation;
  • Romance scams, financial fraud, or coordinated fraudulent operations;
  • Creating a new account after being banned.

We report suspected child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and to law enforcement, as the law requires.

HOW WE ENFORCE THESE GUIDELINES

We use a combination of automated systems and human review. Reports from members are one of our most important signals — if you see something, report it.

Depending on what happened and whether it's happened before, we may: remove content, issue a warning, limit features on an account, reduce a profile's visibility, suspend an account, or remove it permanently.

We prioritise reports involving risk of physical harm, the safety of minors, non-consensual intimate imagery, and credible threats above everything else.

False reports. Reporting someone because you disagree with them, because of who they are, or out of spite is itself a violation. Repeatedly filing baseless reports will get your account actioned.

If you think we got it wrong. You can appeal. Email [email protected] with the subject line "Enforcement Appeal" and tell us what happened and why you think the decision was wrong. Where a decision was made automatically and significantly affects you, you can ask for a human to review it. The appeal process is set out in full in Section 12 of our Acceptable Use Policy.

REPORTING

In the app or on the site: use the report option on any profile or in any conversation.

By email: [email protected]

Useful subject lines: "Safety Report," "Urgent — Minor Safety," "Urgent — NCII Report."

If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.

A FINAL WORD

Most people here are exactly who they say they are and are looking for the same thing you are. These Guidelines exist because of the small number who aren't.

Be kind, be respectful, be safe, be genuine — and tell us when someone isn't.
