Looking for: woman. In age: 21-41

Back in the ocean after a long time on a boat, looking for a good friendship that blossoms into something beautiful. I'm a cook turned waiter turned writer turned eyeglass maker turned ESL teacher turned government employee. This whole jack-of-all-trades thing kind of runs in my family and I'm grateful to have been able to live so many different careers in my life thus far. At the very least, I can't say that I've had a very boring life - I've always enjoyed learning for its own sake. Although the fires of the kitchen proved way too much for me to handle, my main passion is cooking. If there's one thing that gets me back to who I really am, it's a clean kitchen, an empty sink, a sack of groceries and my knives. Friends often ask if I cook overly elaborate meals just for the hell of it - I don't do it often, but whenever I do I feel like a new man. Also, pseudo related to cooking, I am a huge coffee nerd! I have a workbench in my apartment that's solely dedicated to chasing the perfect shot of espresso. I've been a home barista for about 7 years now, and I love the ritual of pulling a shot very relaxing - it's Zen like for me. Every morning starts off with coffee. Some people meditate every morning, but I make myself a nice latte to center myself for the day. I live with my cat, Titan. He's the most important...asset, for lack of better term, that I got from my less than amicable separation about 9 months ago. He's really chill and super sweet, and most people fall in love with him straight away. Like a lot of people here, I'm mostly a homebody, and spend a lot of evenings decompressing with Netflix and working out in my apartment. I find it's a really good way to just let the worries of the day fall away, mostly through sweat and muscle aches. But that doesn't mean I'm not up for new adventures, too. I'm looking for a woman who will take me out of my comfort zone, grab my hand as we jump off the cliff, look me in the eye and say, "Let's go, cowboy," and plunge into the next adventure. Anyways, that's me. To be honest, I don't really know why dating sites ask people to describe themselves. If I had it my way, I'd have little quizlets on my front page that asked visitors questions that I could interpret. Something like:If you were at a pub, what would you order?1) Yam fries2) Steak and kidney pie3) Fish and chips4) Arugula salad with a Parmesan wedgeNow these are all lovely meals in and of themselves and I don't purport to be able to choose a mate based solely on her order, but don't you think it would be much more interesting?Me? I'm going with 2 and a side order of 4, unless the fish is wriggling just before the oil bath, in which case I'll choose 3. Yam fries are sort of last decade. Where was I?Right. I've come to the somewhat common conclusion that Vancouver and the burbs are a tough place to meet people. I don't blame you, there's a lot of crazy going around and I wouldn't want to smile either. Strangest thing I've ever seen here? This guy shits his pants on the Skytrain, gets off at Stadium, then shakes the turd out on the platform, like a boss. It was disgusting, but also kind of endearing, like if you're going to sh*t yourself, you might as well be as awesome as you can be. I dunno about you, but the whole dating site persona isn't a very organic way of meeting people. It's not as if we open up with an autobiographical hello when we meet someone new, right? I wouldn't walk up to an attractive woman on the street and tell her, "I'm Jon and I like cats and cooking and I've been heartbroken before but I don't need you to fix me and sometimes I ramble but I hope you're alright with that, and here's what I look like in a suit, and here's a picture of me eating an apple, and here's one of me at my buddy's wedding, and..."So anyways, I guess what I'm trying to say, is I don't want an autobiographical hello, just a normal one will do, and if you've read this far and have come to a decision about me, do contact me, for better or worse, okay?I'd love to meet for a coffee and a quick walk by the seawall. I really love watching the harbour planes take off and land on a clear, sunny day. Then we could watch Godzilla rise from the depths and bat around the planes like little action figures and decimate North Vancouver with radioactive lasers, while all the food truck owners pack up their restaurants and take off up Cordova. In the panic, let's jump into a cab and race toward my apartment. I'll bake a fish in a parchment paper bag with chamomile tea and baby potatoes, which we'll eat while watching the carnage unfold on TV. When the forces scramble aging fighter planes to combat Godzilla, who by now has moved to Oprah's house in West Vancouver, we'll make chocolate panna cotta together and pet the cat, who has no idea what's going on and is content to purr in your lap, or behind your head, on the couch. Right when Godzilla's about to fall victim to the oxygen weapon, we'll dig into that panna cotta with a little Cuban espresso on the side. Or, you know, Science World? Wandering around Yaletown?
