I've got several hobbies, and I'm always picking up something new to learn about and try out. I've done everything from knitting to soapstone carving and tend to give most of my creations away as presents to friends and family. My dream/goal in life is to own my own piece of land (preferably over 5 acres) on which I will build a cabin or house and be as self-sufficient as possible. Even though I'd be content with having an outhouse and just getting water from a well or filtered from a river, I've been working with electrical wiring and plumbing in order to install modern conveniences in the cabin since I doubt I'd find someone these days willing to live like such a pioneer as well. Plus, recessed lighting and heated flooring are pretty awesome anyways. I could go on for hours about all the other projects I have planned for the land, so if you wanna know more just send me a message!I suppose what makes me unique is the focus more on learning skills I can put to use over just going out and getting drunk with friends. I still do that, but it's maybe once every couple of months. I'm not a huge fan of sports, but I know enough to follow along with a game and enjoy it with others. I'd rather spend hours working on a project than cheering over a game on TV. I've also been told I'm an amazing cook, particularly for breads, soups, stews, and fish dishes.I also enjoy reading, sci-fi and fantasy in particular, but my shelf probably has a 6:1 ratio of DIY books to recreational(?) literature. The fantasy book I'm currently reading is Into The Darkness by Harry Turtledove. As far as music goes, I'll readily listen to anything other than rap and radio country. There are a few songs that are an exception to that, but for the most part they're just not my first choice. The only time I ever listen to music really is either in the car or at night picking random videos on youtube, so I don't even have an MP3 player. The last time I did have one, I just loaded up audiobooks anyways! Also if you wanna make it through a long series in a short time, that's definitely the way to go. In just a week or two of work I had gone through the entire series for Dune, Hitchhiker's Guide, and The Chronicles of Narnia. Be sure to get the unabridged versions!Anywho, I guess that's enough out of me to give a first impression. If you made it this far and want to message me, go ahead! If you want a short version: Hi, I do things and read books. I'd say the best first date is one that lets you have wonderful memories to hold onto afterwards.Doing something like a pottery or painting class where you end up with a gift to give each other at the end as a keepsake seems like it'd be fun.Otherwise just anything that involves fun and getting to know each other would be great. Dinner and/or a movie is probably the worst date for me. Meeting up for just a meal tends to be just a lot of small talk and never seems to have much depth to it while a movie is just two hours of silence next to each other.Going to the park or a carnival definitely has less formality to it as well and it's easier to open up to each other when you've got more space around and more games to play.
