I currently work in industry, but I prefer research and academia. I am very passionate about the neotropics and I would like to design a graduate study looking at plant- At this time, graduate school is a priority in my life and it's important to me (if I become involved in a relationship), that my partner is incredibly supportive of my desire to do international research. I use to be a tree planter. I can be sensitive and emotional sometimes (I think this comes along with being a very passionate individual). I cried when the "tree of life" was destroyed in Avatar. I like too many things for my own good: Reading (currently reading "The Motorcycle Diaries" and "A Brief History of Nearly Everything"), writing, learning Spanish, ethic foods, eating healthy, cross country skiing, swimming, running, horses (I use to be a competitive rider, but now I simply ride for fun), backpacking (I've done a number of amazing trips), kayaking, canoeing, stand up paddle boarding, going out for beers, museums, breakfast, wool socks, biology ID books, playing the guitar, piano and ukulele, primates, sleeping, building things, travel...etc.I've traveled to and/or lived in several countries and look forward to much more traveling in my life. I really love Latin culture and would love to bike around south America with the right partner one day. I don't wear makeup, and very rarely dress up... but if the occasion calls, I'll put on a stunning dress and drop some jaws. You:Are probably a well educated (perhaps even geeky - like myself), modest, passionate, somewhat athletic (because of all the cool activities you do), adventurous, down to earth, level-headed guy who's been moderately successful in life. "I used to think the brain was the most important organ. Then I thought, look what's telling me that!"Hey. I am an ambitious, outgoing, sporty kinda gal! I have a career that I love and enjoy every day, and am always aspiring to learn more and be better at what I do. I am pretty passionate about my work, but not so passionate that I don't try to take off for a few months every year in pursuit of the most pristine beaches on the planet. I'm a watersport junkie-- scuba diving, surfing, SUPing, and hopefully soon kiteboarding! Wanna teach me?!Other than water sports, I enjoy a good long distance run, hike, or cycle, and am trying to get better at my newest hobby: mountain biking. And by better, I mean slightly less blood at the end of each ride. Yikes. I'll put this out there right now though, I'm not too much of a skiier....been there, tried that several times. I am willing to try and get better, but just be warned that there may be copious cursing, yelling, and/or death threats. Just kidding about the last one! But seriously, I love the sun. Snow, not so much.Other than sports, I enjoy a nice night in with a book, movie, a few TED talks and a glass of wine...or beer. I think a day is wasted if I did not open a book and break a sweat. Family and friends are extremely important to me, and I am lucky enough to have an amazing assortment of both. I am an independent girl with a love for life.....but it's more fun when you can share it with someone!You: are happy....or travel the world. You love the outdoors, and don't think it would be weird to go running on our second date. You can teach me things, and are willing to be taught.
