I am an east bay native, grew up in Rockridge and have lived in the area my whole life. I've been to Europe a few times and like to travel to other places too.I am looking for a relationship with a woman around my age, someone that perhaps is also a parent like me. I have designed building systems for everything from hospitals, schools, high end residential, breweries, high tech, laboratories, etc. I got my degree at Cal Poly and I love my job and career. I did "Mr. Mom" for a number of years when my girls were young and I had my own consulting business during that time. However today I have a great job with a local firm here in the east bay. On several occasions, I've visited my girls' school to teach at their classes about science and solar energy. This is one of the most rewarding things I've gotten to do; seeing the young students engaged is awesome. I volunteer a lot with my engineering society; I was formerly the president of our local chapter. My philanthropy with this group includes both leadership and advocacy roles. I am driven to make a difference.I am very passionate about these aspects of my life, but I do play hard too :-) When I am not doing the engineering thing, I enjoy indy/garage rock music, craft beer, traveling, and most importantly, parenting and being with my two girls. I love R.E.M.;little broken hearts". I've been fortunate to have met several musicians from some of these bands, they are so cool. I don't know how to play any *** I aspire to learn how to play guitar someday.I love to cook too.Finally, I must explain that if I contact you with an introduction, it's because I would like to learn more about you and perhaps meet. I was the first in my family to attend college because after a series of physically demanding jobs I decided my career trajectory ended in an environmentally controlled space in which I used my brain and not my muscles. I do, however, still enjoy mowing my own yard (all one acre of it), gardening, and splitting my own firewood. I think the outdoors is something to stop, enjoy, and experience close up and isn’t a location to just run through on the way to somewhere else. I do enjoy outdoor activities including fishing, lazy hiking, and nature photography. I don’t mind getting my hands dirty.Ever interested in the natural world and how it works, I got my PhD and spent a considerable amount of my career tromping around foreign lands helping to establish infectious disease surveillance systems. I was one of those folks looking for the next emerging virus. While in graduate school I helped found a medical school in Nepal and spent a few months there teaching. I have seen many parts of the world but few would consider the locations traditional vacation destinations.As an introvert, I prefer deep conversations on a one on one basis, but I can hold my own at parties and larger social gatherings. Some even find my humorous and quite silly at times. I am fiercely loyal. I still say “pop” *** “soda.” I prefer to drive over flying if possible as I enjoy road trips.I enjoy reading, cooking, and taking care of my ***year old farmhouse. I love reading about history and recently did a tour of the major Civil War battlefields in the DC area.
