Besides the standard meeting for a drink, which can be really nice or really awkward(!), I think meeting at a place like a mall or flea market can be an option as it gives you lots to talk about as you walk around, get to learn each others tastes, and you don't have to be staring at each other the whole time (assuming it's that awkward date!). However, meeting for a drink always works as well. As we all know - it's the chemistry that really counts...
