"I am a work in progress," etc. etc. (the famous saying is not worth writing out). Clear, firm, and unequivocal, here I stand. I've fused many lives into one, and have died a thousand deaths. I'm half in love with love and half in love with the idea of love. I am often bored by the sky, things have lost my fancy, and I've outlived certain desires. I am not as gifted as I once was. I will never understand calculus. The Netherlands is the limit of my traveling. It's painful to think that I have yet to behold savages in New Guinea spearing fish or naked men eating raw flesh. But let me consider. When one thing ends another thing begins, and another, and another. And why should there be an end to things?
