I am the proud mom of two successful children who are in their mid-twenties, have finished college and Grad school, are financially stable, and live on their own. My daughter recently got married (July 14, ***, and my son has been with his gf for almost 4 years now. Family, immediate and extended, is very important to me. I am a 26-year veteran special education teacher. I teach children with emotional, psychological, and social disabilities. I consider myself fortunate to LOVE my "kids" at school, to LOVE my job, and to work with people who are my BEST friends! I not only teach during the regular school year, but I also teach six weeks out of the summer (It keeps me off the streets! LOL). In seven years, I plan on retiring from teaching. After that, I'd love to work with older people (lots of wisdom to soak up there) or with animals (lots of unconditional love).I am quick witted, and I like to joke around A LOT. So, if you can't handle a little teasing, please save yourself the time and the aggravation of putting up with me. Also, if you state in your profile that you don't take life too seriously, please be sure you know what that means. I just have to say that I'm an independent woman, partly due to need and partly due to personality! I rely on myself for almost everything, and, when I can't do it myself, it ticks me off to no end! LOL!!!! I lack skills in major automotive needs, carpentry, and plumbing (I'm getting better with this skill, though. I recently replaced the refill valve and the flexible line to the refill valve on my toilet... on the first try... with no leaks! Not a cure for cancer or an end to world hunger, but it's still an accomplishment. LOL). All of those skills are needed on a daily basis here at the "money pit". It's not easy for me to ask for help (MAJOR UNDERSTATEMENT), but I'm working on it! Also, since I am an independent "kinda" girl, I promise I won't be your "mom". I figure if you're on this site, and are an adult, then you don't need me to be your mom. And, conversely, I figure that you know that I had a dad (one of the greatest men I ever had the pleasure of knowing, btw), so I don't need another one. In other words, I won't tell you what to do and how to do it, and I am sure that you will treat me with the same respect. I'm also not a Cling-On (not to be confused with a Klingon from Star Trek... although, I'm not one of those, either), nor do I wish to be a conjoined twin. I will let you wear your big boy pants and play with your friends without me there, and I would hope that you would allow me to do so with my friends. By no means does that mean that I am not invested in a relationship. In fact, quite the opposite is true. If you're an adult, then you deserve to be treated as such. If you mess that up, you will have to deal with the consequences. If you feel the need to cheat or to lie, then I know you'll understand my need to say, "Vaya con Dios!" TOUGH LOVE HURTS, but I'm a firm believer that, by the age of 40, you should be able to be honest with yourself and others in what you are looking for in life. I don't understand the thrill people get from cheating or lying. If you must cheat, try doing it while playing Poker or a board game like Monopoly. As for what I'm looking for... I base things on personality and compatibility more than on looks or bank account/material possessions. I do look for wit and humor to be a large part of a man's personality, as well as someone who treats others with respect, kindness, and compassion. I love a guy that smiles... a genuine smile. Good heavens, if I can smile all the time, despite the freakin' huge dimples it creates on my face, then I think a guy can muster up a genuine one, too! Family must be important to him (or, at least, being part of a family or the idea of being part of a family), as well. I am not looking for casual encounters, and I really prefer not to be called "Doll", "Honey", etc., the first time a man contacts me. It feels a little cheap to me. Sorry, it's just how I feel. I'm just a normal lady living my life as best I can. My life is pretty quiet at the moment. I just started a new career, so that is where most of my focus needs to be. I would like to meet someone for dating, hanging out and friendship. Want to take things slow and see what happens. As for things I like to do....I'm very easy going and am willing to do just about anything as long as I am with good company. I am not much of a bar person, but do enjoy occassionally if I'm listening to a band or hanging out with a group of friends.
