I have found that first "meetings" are best in a casual environment such as meeting for coffee or happy hour. It doesn't take long to determine if there is any chemistry. If not, its easier to find out over coffee than a fancy dinner etc. If there is, that's when the fun date planning begins. I prefer to plan a date once you know a little about someone and their likes and interests. That way it can be more personal. I like fun dates, such as mini golf, go carting, or some other fun activity.
