I find it is easier to get to know someone when you are participating in an activity. Going for a walk, skating, bowling, shooting hoops, watching a game. Sitting across from someone for a whole meal seems like an interrogation and could be awkward. A meeting for coffee or lunch would be fine or a picnic and a walk on a nice sunny day.
