About Me

Are you pretty much 'done cooking', but have a little 'bite' left in the middle? Then you are Al Dente! I am self sufficient but feminine, compassionate, playful and engaging. I am a progressive thinker and would love to find someone else who is intelligent, a good communicator, has a global view, is accepting of other cultures and wants to improve their little corner of the planet. Not saying that differences don't add interest, but relationships where two people share the same basic beliefs can allow for the most profound bond which I am so psyched about having with the right man. As one of 6 children and a government employee for 25 years, I have a necessary quick wit and a good sense of humor. I enjoy heading down there to visit him and see the sights on occasion. Love the arts and music. I love nature and animals, not a vegan but try to make healthy, sustainable food choices as well as the most humane ones. I always have some home improvement project going on. I have a great garden, and would love to find someone who also gets jazzed about seeing things grow. I'd love to learn to kayak and am just starting guitar lessons. I do play the piano just well enough to accompany my singing, which is just good self therapy sometimes. Travel is in my long term plan, but right now I volunteer for an animal rescue and I have pets of my own to care for.I recently changed my profile to 'dating' from 'long term', I hate these labels but I notice that many in the 'dating' arena do hope to eventually find a LTR, as do I. I am not looking to get married again, but look forward to a committed monogamous relationship.I am hoping to find a quietly confident, honest and loyal man my age or younger, who wants to deeply love and be loved. Someone who keeps a clean home, is socially aware and considers himself a lifetime learner. I am affectionate, friends first, of course, and love holding hands, caresses and kisses. No offense, but not interested in dating a hunter, or anyone who is addicted or recovering from addiction. And dudes, how about a picture? Preferably without a baseball cap on? D:) I'm not a mountain climber, or a secret ninja spy like Angelina, but I am still a great catch, an energetic person with new adventures ahead. I do hope for someone who stays reasonably fit and likes to keep busy rather than watching TV or sports a lot.     I am honest, thoughtful, intelligent, generous, funny, and sensual in a down-to-earth kind of way. I have a very playful and passionate nature. I love being active - swimming, cycling, kayaking, camping - but those things are so much more fun with a companion. I love music. I sing (well, I'm told) and can convince the untrained ear that I play the guitar. I have been singing and playing liturgical music most of my adult life. Someday I hope to kayak out to Bear Island from the mainland. I started cycling again last summer. While I have always loved the outdoors, I have not always been this active. It has come as part of a conscious choice to be true to myself. I recently encountered this quote, which I really love:"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs...[And] if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly. " I have very mixed feelings about that. I have been teaching children with special needs for nearly thirty years. Love the job, love the kids, do not love the direction that politics and educational policy have taken in the past decade. Still not quite sure I want to be when (if?!) I grow up - so for now I'm happy to have a few more years to contemplate that. As I approach the end of my career, I find myself seeking out more challenges rather than less. I want to travel. I want to encounter other cultures, places I've never seen before. I want to use the skills that I've developed over the years in new ways. I am not young, gorgeous, or thin. I hope to find an affectionate best friend who will appreciate the sparkle in my eyes more than the wrinkles around them, and the sound of my laughter more than the measure of my thighs. I love music and the outdoors. An outdoor concert (I'll bring the picnic - we can munch and talk before and after!) sounds great, but I'm open to lots of options so long as it's public and we can talk.

I am working on losing weight though and doing very well. Family is VERY important to me. I have a 2 year old grandson and he's the love of my life. I spend as much time as I can with him and my kids. I like to spoil my man, and I would hope that he would like to spoil me as well. Life is about finding someone who makes you smile even when you don't want to. It's about respecting each other, and to like doing little things that bring a smile. It may just be a hug or a kiss or even just a smile. It's all about not really wanting to leave in the morning and can hardly wait to come home at night. It's about kissing good morning and kissing goodnight. Never going to sleep angry. It's about Hugs. Its about being able to agree to disagree. I speak my mind and sometimes I get in trouble because of it but don't ask my opinion if you don't want it and don't say you like honesty if you don't. I'm witty and can be silly but know when to act like a lady. Well if you've made it this far, maybe I've peaked your interest... If I have don't be shy ... say hello it could be the start of something great!!! If it isn't then we've made a friend we didn't have before. Smile, it makes people wonder what you're up to. I would rather have a first MEET, let's just meet for coffee or drinks, and see if there is any kind of connection, relaxed is better, rather than a Date. it may turn into that. who knows.
