I like doing mundane things with people so I can see how they operate generally and because I think you should be able to have fun no matter what you do. Study parties are great - you don't have to talk to someone to enjoy their company! Of course, hiking and holes in the wall are fun, too. For first dates, though, I prefer something low-cost and low-maintenance.
