About Me

I'm a writer-turned-scientist (working on my PhD). I spend my days trying to be clever enough to trick Nature (especially the ocean) into telling me secrets so I can steal them, publish them, and build a scientific career out of them ;). When I'm not working, I spend a lot of time driving around LA & OC seeking out adventures -- I'm part hard-nosed scientist, part thinker, part dreamer, and I hopelessly romanticize things that I like.Fun facts:I'm neither a coffee, chocolate, nor a beer snob -- but... I'm an artisan dark and bitter, on all accounts :)I'm independent financially -- obligatory symbiosis freaks me out :). I come from a long line of housewives and ultra-conservative, religious republicans... I seem to keep breaking the mold on all accounts.I'm the first scientist in my family, and no one understands what it is I do. I'm an ocean biogeochemist;-- I probably know less about dolphins than the average American.I love the ocean, but its vastness scares me to death. I love history, museums, plays, cirque du soleil, low-fi music from artists no one has ever heard of. I also love just sitting around and doing nothing. I get the best ideas when I do nothing at all.I love my friends and I love nurturing their talents and aspirations.A filthy habit of mine ***that I probably won't give up -- is driving long distances with small-minded goals, like getting lunch at that little hole-in-the- Man, that sounds really good right now. I'm a climate criminal with an environmental science degree, I admit it.I'm single by choice right now and I'm loving the freedom. I think I secretly crave something more again someday, but it's not necessarily my MO here. Enough about me - let's talk about you!

    I love my friends, family and of course, my dog Karli.- the Twins, Vikings and Gophers. I'm making an effort to be more active and healthy, and am excited for a few upcoming 5K fun runs!     I'm not quite sure what to say on here, but that seems to be a common thread. Feel free to ask questions, I'm pretty open about my life.I like a mix in my social life. There are points where I just want to relax at home with the kitten and a good movie... or I want to gather with friends and laugh, it doesn't matter what we're doing. My friends and family are incredibly important to me and I place a high priority on my time with them. I tend to make friends easily and the majority of my friends are considered family as much as those that are blood related.I want to become more active again. I used to love hiking and dance but a knee problem kept me from enjoying those things. My physical therapist recently released me to work out on it again so I'm definitely trying to get back into the swing of things. Someone that likes to partake in the same and is willing to deal with me easing back into things would be appreciated.Some quirks and tidbits:--I'm the typical girl who loves shoes, yet I love being barefoot-I do not like guns, at all (Please don't contact me if they're a big part of your life. I respect your opinions I just don't choose to place myself around guns.)-I am not the crazy cat lady, but Sadie holds my heart-I was attacked by dogs when I was little, doesn't mean I don't like them but I need to observe them before approaching-My degree is in Theatre Education-I'm allergic to cigarette smoke and nuts-I'm a country girl, I like a range of music but I'm a country girl-I love having a reason to dress up
