DISCLOSURE: when I first joined meetville, I was not ready to date... I was just trolling. As such, my age on this profile is wrong. I'm 47, not 43. * * * Welcome, weary dating site traveler. If you've been on here for any amount of time, you've probably spotted the irony of looking for someone special, yet having to trudge through profiles and *** homogeneous that it seems all communication comes through a Mad Libs filter. "If you want to know anything, just ask"? That would be great if I knew who the person was (I doubt they are omnipotent, so I hesitate to posit a query about string theory). "No games and no liars"? As if some game-playing liar is going to be sitting at home reading it and think, 'ah well I guess I won't write HER.I don't mean to sound lacking in empathy - empathy is, after all, one of my favorite activities. There is a certain unnatural salesmanship that goes into writing a self-summary and packing it with pictures that look like you have a show on the Discovery Channel. We all do it. I did it before I remade this profile, which I am writing because I've lost interest in selling myself as if this was the emotional equivalent to ebay. But those kinds of profiles kick in the teeth the idea we're all vast museums of incredible stories and experiences, both good, bad and meh. For the record, I don't say meh in real life. So who am I, you ask (if you didn't, pretend that you did)? My first love is being a writer (this profile notwithstanding) and I find great inspiration at every turn. I am fair-minded, which means you don't have to be my mirror image (playwright, atheist, ex-husband, 9-to-5er, gardener, biker, second- Standards, schmandards. In fact, the more different you are from me, the more we'll actually have to talk about. And if you're equally fair-minded, we might have a laugh (another favorite activity). But it would be nice. And I'm very open to the possibilities. If I would say I have a "type", it's the kind of woman who is as well. Something new.Drinks are awesome but there's zero risk involved and it doesn't intrigue me. If I wanted to play it 100% safe, I'd not be on a dating site to begin with.
