I'm a part time adventurer. People often forget the basics of life by allowing themselves to get wrapped up in the details.Now I make ice cream, and find the whole thing unbelievably satisfying and rewarding.I'm a writer currently in the grips of writing several stories that may or may not ever actually be finished. In fact, I fully anticipate that most of them will never be done and I'm sort of 'fine' with that. On a related note, I love storytelling. I think that it is a dying art, and strongly believe that stories tell us how to live.I'm looking for someone who has an idea of what they want out of their life. Not a concrete image by any means, but at least an idea of what they like best about living, and how they want to hammer together a product from the bits and pieces that they have. I would hope for someone who recognizes their flaws, and might have experienced enough of life that they can safely say "I have made mistakes. I am improving." There is no age guideline that can represent this. Recognizing ones own faults is a sign of growth, and we are all growing.Personal goals, I would like to finish at least one of the books I am chipping away at writing, become independently wealthy enough to buy a hunk of property somewhere that I can keep a cat and a dog, and build a big person equivalent of a "Hobbit Hole." I'd have a garden, a shop, a library, and disappear into the woods for days at a time.Also I am going to try to live to be ***. Wish me luck.Also also, I want a Tardis. Badly.Hm, I hope that wasn't too specific. I'm actually trying not to make this profile seem too 'wordy.' That said, if you like wordy people, maybe we should hang out. They are a group of easy going, kind hearted, protective people, and anyone I would introduce to them would eventually have to pass the trials. They will judge you to see if you are worthy, and I'm not threatening here, just giving a heads up. These are some of the most lovely and beautiful people you could ever hope to meet, and they will probably tease you (and me) about meeting on a dating site.I need my own time and space. I am so down for including people in activities whenever possible, but sometimes, I do (and can) tell my friends "Nah, not tonight. I just need to decompress by myself." I love having people around who share my interests, bringing in new people to the things I love and almost as much as all that, I love being able to do my own thing in the company of others while they in turn do their own thing. Being comfortable with someone means you don't need to have a constant conversation, or do things to stay entertained.I am a geek who walks the fine line between "socially competent" and "one of the nerdier people you know." It is a very fine line and I really don't know how I do it. In fact it might all just be in my head, which frankly is the place that matters most to me. I am direct with what I want and generally very good at understanding people and their thoughts or emotions. I know how to give a compliment and mean it. I take a great deal of care in making sure that the people around me have their needs met and are happy.R.R Tolkien, The Dalai Lama, and The Doctor.Jesus I write too much. I swear, I never talk about myself in person.Does anyone seriously read more than 1 paragraph? Probably not.Ah well, consider yourself over-educated. Go someplace for tea. We could sit down, each with a stack of books, and take turns reading favorite passages/quotes out of them. Maybe talk about them a little, but not necessarily. At the conclusion of the stacks, I would think we might have a pretty reasonable idea about one another.Second date would have to be something like a solid hike or a kayaking trip out on the bay (weather permitting), maybe a trip to the shooting range if you're interested (I'm not a crazy gun person by any means, but I do think it's fun.) Follow it up with dinner and/or a pub. (Any of those things probably means I like you by the way.)Incidentally, I am a complete sucker for a girl with a nice laugh. This is completely selfish though, because I tend to make people laugh often, and I like to be surrounded by nice things.Have I mentioned my occasionally dry sense of humor?

    I've got a good thing going out here, and I'd like to make it just a little bit better by enjoying it with you... so come on down, and welcome to the show...I'm just a laid back guy who likes to have fun. I love the outdoors but try not to spend my entire life outdoors. I like the gym but don't live at the gym. I just got into crossfit but don't drink the "crossfit coolaid". I've spent my entire career working outdoors in one way or another and NOT inside an office, which is how I like it. The sensation of being inside an office feels similar to drowning for me. So I avoid it at all costs. Otherwise I spend my time snowboarding, hiking, backpacking, or thinking up new ways to bring sarcasm and wit into everyday, mundane situations. It's a nice life I lead... clean, simple, and drama free. Y'all seem to enjoy complicating things unnecessarily sometimes. Please don't complicate my life with your nonsense. That's all I really ask. Otherwise... bring it on. I am really good at: Staying calm and smiling when I don't really want to. Daydreaming. Laughing at inappropriate things during inappropriate times. Getting irritable pets that bite to like and not bite me. Driving long distances. Riding trains. Feeling awkward when there's no reason to be feeling awkward. Drinking (which is why I don't). Sleeping. Exercising. Staying active. Watching movies. Pretending to understand heavily accented conversations when in reality I have no clue what anyone is saying at all. Writing like Kerouac on speed. Writing poetry even though I can't stand poetry. Snowboarding. Avoiding people I don't like. Managing to find the squeaky, lumpy-wheeled shopping cart every.single.time. Not eating seafood. Staying disciplined and positive. Swimming like a fish. And of course... not being a**** Also, I have never hit a woman. Nor have I ever even considered hitting a woman. I think this should be one of the items on POF's checklist. Right next to smoking preference. Somewhere public. Ladies, you should do the same. Although a nice hike in the woods sounds like a fantastic idea for our first date, I don't know you, and we've all seen those crime TV shows about love gone wrong. Who needs all that? Dinner or a nice city walk works for me (on me of course). Maybe we hit up the trail on the second or third date.
