As far as the first date.. If there's a spark I'll build a fire. I prefer roads less traveled that lead to places unlisted on the common map. Doing either something we both share an interest in and like to do, or better yet something/somewhere that neither of us have ever done but have wanted to. That's ideal for a great first date.
